2014 Event Wrap-Up

2014 Concours d'Elegance

at French Lick Resort

In front of a crowd of nearly 4,000 people, competitors from more than 17 states came together to showcase what is arguable the best collection of cars in the history of the Concours d'Elegance at French Lick Resort (formerly the Louisville Concours d'Elegance). The judges did not have an easy task deciding this year's winners! Ultimately, it was the Mitchell Collection that took home Best in Show with their 1929 Stutz Lancefield Coupe.

Mad “VIN” Gala • $175 per person

Sponsored by Bluegrass Motorsports

2014’s gala was simply Mad! The dome at West Baden Springs Hotel came to life as guests gathered on the eve of the Concours d’Elegance. Complete with drink tickets, dinner, a premium silent auction and music from the band SIREN – dapper guests came together to celebrate the work of Kosair Children’s Hospital. Aiden Johnson, a patient at Kosair Children’s Hospital, was honored as the special guest. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, over $3,000 was raised during a pledge moment for Aiden.

Indiana Automotive Heritage Day • Free

A group of dynamic speakers gathered together to provide an entertaining and informative lecture series, all which was completely free for guests. Speakers included:

  • Dennis Horvath, Author and foremost expert on all things Indiana automotive
  • Hans Kellogg, Ball State Professor
  • Donald Davidson, Indianapolis Motor Speedway historian
  • William Jeanes, former editor-in-chief and publisher Car and Driver and former publisher for Road & Track. For 15 years, he was Chief Judge at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

Driving Tour • $50 per person

Sponsored by Best Home Furnishings

This sold-out event brought together car enthusiasts for a unique driving experience. Guests meandered the beautiful, and surprisingly hilly, back roads of southern Indiana on this automotive adventure to take in a car collection some say rivals that of Jay Leno. There were two stops along the Driving Tour. The first was Clem Lange’s collection of more than 60 classic cars, mostly brass era, all very unique, many restored by Clem himself.  The second was Joey Lange’s collection of show quality muscle cars.  Guests also enjoyed a barbeque lunch served at the Fuhs-Lange farm, owned by Clem and Mary C. Lange.

Welcome Reception • Invitation Only

Sponsored by 502 Auto Club

To help kick-off the weekend, sponsors, judges, exhibitors, artists and other special guests enjoyed a laid-back evening at French Lick Springs Hotel. Weather forced the reception inside, but that didn’t stop everyone from enjoying the wonderful hors d’oeuvres and catching up with familiar faces.
